“I was inspired to do this piece to show how a client and his attorney get together and discuss a strategy to win a case. You can become stuck on an issue fighting it for years. When you fight for justice it can become stressful even if it is directly in front of you. No matter what, you have to rise above the hardship and continue your mission. No matter what the day looks like, blue sky or gray, you have to continue the fight.”
Shelton Alford is an artist currently serving a life sentence. Seeking an outlet, he turned to art after an older mentor he frequently spoke with introduced him to painting by giving him a brush and canvas. Alford's work is rooted in storytelling, often reflecting meaningful moments from his life, particularly the joy and memories of his childhood. Alford chooses not to center his art on incarceration. Instead, he focuses on themes of hope, happiness, and personal reflection.
