Before his return to making art, Johnny Irizarry played many important roles in his Philadelphia community. Irizarry was a Program Specialist for Puerto Rican and Latino Studies for the School District of Philadelphia, Office of Curriculum Support, and taught as an adjunct instructor at Temple University and La Salle University. He teaches part-time Latinx cultural studies and nonprofit courses at the University of Pennsylvania. Irizarry also served as Executive Director of The Lighthouse and Taller Puertorriqueño in North Philadelphia. After retiring from working full-time, Irizarry is creating art and has recently been exhibiting in the Philadelphia area.
