Stephen Wilson expertly crafts extraordinary and timeless designs using sustainable materials. Each art piece embarks on a journey, starting with an up-cycled luxury bag, box, silk scarf, or album. Wilson meticulously creates a bespoke embroidery design, delicately intertwining every stitch by hand.
The album series begins with a vintage album sleeve, which serves as the foundation for intricate designs created with a variety of techniques such as yarn embroidery and photorealistic embroidery. Each album is carefully embroidered with over 200,000 stitches, taking more than 8 hours to complete. Upon completion, the album is adorned with embroidered patches and other decorative objects, making each one truly unique.
"The cover for this album is a photograph of a sculpture created to look like a a cake. Everything is perched over an album on a turntable--film reels, a tire, a clock face as well as frosting and mini figures of the band. This album has been on my wall for a while waiting for me to start it, this was a very difficult project and I kept putting it off. Someone commissioned it so it went into the lineup. I started by stitching a waxy geometric background in tonal threads to give the background some interest and then the cake. There are over 75 different colors of thread in this piece and over 100,000 painstakingly placed stitches in the project. The end result is amazing. The thread gives Let it bleed dimension and depth. The album title was created as a patch and mounted to the album as the finishing step." – Stephen Wilson
