Stephen Wilson expertly crafts extraordinary and timeless designs using sustainable materials. Each art piece embarks on a journey, starting with an up-cycled luxury bag, box, silk scarf, or album. Wilson meticulously creates a bespoke embroidery design, delicately intertwining every stitch by hand.
The album series begins with a vintage album sleeve, which serves as the foundation for intricate designs created with a variety of techniques such as yarn embroidery and photorealistic embroidery. Each album is carefully embroidered with over 200,000 stitches, taking more than 8 hours to complete. Upon completion, the album is adorned with embroidered patches and other decorative objects, making each one truly unique.
"This is my favorite album by the doors because of the music and cover. You may not notice it from looking but it was created with a yellow sleeve, with the band's picture screened on top of clear plastic framed in burgundy cardboard with rounded edges. This was very cool packaging from an album that was released in 1971. This was Jim Morrison's last album before his untimely death and is in Rolling Stones top 500 albums of all time. I started by stitching concentric circles of yarn on the yellow inner sleeve. The next step in the process was to stitch the cover in yarn as well. I used circular stitches for both the burgundy background and the lettering. To finish the album, I mounted the two pieces together so that the yellow yarn shows behind the image." - Stephen Wilson
