"There are no music fans who grew up in the 70’s or the 80’s who weren’t fans of the Clash, each of their 6 studio albums were unique and musically different, the Clash merged punk, rock and roll and pop to truly create a unique sound. London Calling is my favorite Clash album so it was the first of their albums that I wanted to embroider. The graphics for the album are based on a self titled Elvis album from the 1950’s with a striking black and white image with graphic lettering down the side, The Elvis album was the first one of his that I created as well. I decided to use bold strokes of yarn embroidery to create both graphics and the typography on this piece." – Stephen Wilson
Stephen Wilson expertly crafts extraordinary and timeless designs using sustainable materials. Each art piece embarks on a journey, starting with an up-cycled luxury bag, box, silk scarf, or album. Wilson meticulously creates a bespoke embroidery design, delicately intertwining every stitch by hand.
The album series begins with a vintage album sleeve, which serves as the foundation for intricate designs created with a variety of techniques such as yarn embroidery and photorealistic embroidery. Each album is carefully embroidered with over 200,000 stitches, taking more than 8 hours to complete. Upon completion, the album is adorned with embroidered patches and other decorative objects, making each one truly unique.
