Takefumi Hori
"The dynamic and vibrant energy of people in New York City has been inspiring me in a great deal: the atmosphere and energy alongside the material wealth and prosperity of this financial hub are juxtaposed with the calm serenity of classically uncomplicated geometry and composition."
Takefumi Hori is a Japanese contemporary artist celebrated for his original abstract paintings with gold leaf. Born in Tokyo in 1978 and influenced by Japanese calligraphy, Hori creates luminous contemporary artworks that merge Eastern compositional discipline with the ambition, movement, and energy of New York City.
Working with acrylic, gold, and silver leaf on canvas, Hori has developed an original technique of layering, sanding, scratching, and refining precious metal surfaces to create extraordinary depth, radiance, and texture. Since 2009, gold has been central to his practice, allowing him to explore ideas of beauty, sophistication, desire, and success through abstract contemporary painting. His circle, square, and rectangular compositions invite viewers into immersive visual experiences that shift with light and reward close attention.
Hori has exhibited internationally in solo and group exhibitions across the United States, London, Hong Kong, and Basel, and his work is included in prominent private and corporate collections. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
