Through his colorfully pop portraiture and street artwork, Philadelphia activist and artist Suave Gonzalez proves the political power of art. While serving a 31year prison term, Gonzalez not only taught himself how to paint using acrylic, oil, pen, pencil and other mixed-media (including coffee grounds, glass, and paint chips from the prison walls), but from within prison, he created more than 50 extraordinary murals for the City of Philadelphia through a program he helped to create and found, the acclaimed Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.
