Mark Loughney: “The first time I entered the main corridor at SCI-Graterford, I was terrified. I couldn’t see the other end, that’s how long this thing was. I was taking my first steps into the unknown terrors of a 40-year prison sentence and could not see any end to it. Two years into my sentence, my then girlfriend, who had been my main support system, made a decision to end our relationship and preserve herself. She couldn’t waste her life underground with me as the water began to really pour in to drown me.”
