Liz Barber
"My paintings are layered bursts of energy inspired by nature’s movement, blend-
ing the here and now with memories."
-- Liz Barber (painter)

Liz Barber is a contemporary artist based in Georgia creating original mixed media paintings that explore the interplay of color, movement, and spatial perception. Educated at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and Moore College of Art & Design, Barber has developed a distinctive visual language rooted in experimentation and material exploration. She produces original contemporary artworks that translate memory, emotion, and natural phenomena into immersive, layered compositions.
Barber's paintings are characterized by energetic, volumetric forms that shift between opacity and translucency, occupying multiple spatial dimensions at once. Drawing inspiration from the rhythms of nature—seasonal color, light, and the movement of water—Barber creates abstract works that feel both intuitive and intentional. Each composition evolves through a process of pouring, editing, and refinement, resulting in dynamic surfaces that balance structure with spontaneity.
Working in mixed media, Barber incorporates graphite, oil pastel, and expressive mark-making to build depth, texture, and luminosity. Her focus on light and color interaction drives each piece, inviting a visceral response that transcends traditional distinctions between representation and abstraction.
