Charlie Bluett
“All of the best things that I have and have happened in my life are the things over which I have the least control.” – Charlie Bluett

Born in England in 1965, Charlie Bluett is a colorfield abstract painter now based in Vermont. He studied Fine Art at Eton College, and his first publicly exhibited work was selected for the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Solo and group exhibitions followed at Blains, Smith Street Gallery, and the British Young Masters exhibition in London. Bluett began working as a professional artist in the early 1990s, drawn to the processes he uncovered as his work evolved alongside his own life and experiences.
Bluett’s paintings are driven by a passion for process, the ebb and flow of life, and the light and color of everyday things. He continually pushes his practice in search of new surfaces, colors, and forms, so each body of work reflects the time and experiences behind it. His canvases pay homage to the techniques of the Abstract Masters while drawing on abstract expressionism and contemporary colorfield painting. Shifting surfaces, vibrant yet ethereal color, and a subtle sense of movement give his work a quality that feels both considered and fluid, challenging and at peace.
Today, Bluett works from his studio in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, where the region’s natural landscapes and the vast environments of the United States continue to shape his work.
