Abstract oil painters Daphne Covington and Amy Leigh Carstensen are a painterly duo who work side by side in perfect harmony. The results are artworks that perfectly complement one another — each painting stands strong on its own, yet is effortlessly connected when paired, much like the artists themselves. The two artists share a home, and a studio, yet each painting is individually Daphne’s or Amy’s respectively. Each artist likes to build multiple, textured layers of oils, sometimes adding colored pencils, charcoals and ink, while often scratching the paint’s outermost surface to reveal hidden layers of colors beneath. This mixed-media technique helps to convey a beautiful complexity and depth to the work.
