MOOGLY

French graphic designer, illustrator, and painter Moogly creates semi-abstract "humanimal" portraits. His textured, splattered animals have oddly complex human expressions from bewilderment to apathy. Using acrylic, lacquer, and resin, he positions the monochromatic characters against a black void, allowing the eyes, marked by two machine washers, to speak. Moogly is deeply ashamed of the environmental harm caused by humans, so he allows animals to reflect this emotional damage back at us.
From a young age, Moogly was encouraged to draw by his grandfather who worked as an illustrator. As an adult, Moogly gravitated towards freelance graphic design, which afforded him the autonomy and time to pursue a signature style and ultimately to begin exhibiting. Moogly draws inspiration from acclaimed illustrator Ralph Steadman, especially in his messy ink splatters and scratches. He is also inspired by Jackson Pollock’s drip technique. Flattened by a graphic style and reanimated by texture, his characters offer something unique, contemplative, and fresh.
Moogly’s work is regularly exhibited in France and beyond.
