Chrissy McIntyre
Chrissy McIntyre is a distinguished mixed-media and collage artist based in New Jersey, with over 11 years of experience in her current medium, and a rich background in painting, ceramics, and a wide array of crafts. Her intricate and thought-provoking collages emerged serendipitously one afternoon when she decided to experiment with fragments of magazine paper as an unconventional form of paint, creating an abstract composition. Through this method, which involved meticulously cutting paper into small squares and adhering them one by one, McIntyre sought to achieve a form of realism, culminating in a portrait of her dog. That dog went into an art show, sold and Chrissy got an order for a cat. More orders soon followed, and in no time, the artist was very busy creating custom pet portraits, and later cheeky British iconography.
Building on the success of her pet portraiture, McIntyre soon ventured into her “Travelogue” series, which reflects her lifelong passion for travel. Through her lens, she captures the essence of her journeys—photographing scenes and landscapes—which would later evolve into highly detailed and delicate collages of urban cityscapes and serene natural environments. Travel continues to serve as a significant source of inspiration, infusing her work with a dynamic sense of place and exploration.
Among the artists who have influenced McIntyre’s distinctive style are Pop Art icons such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, whose bold, graphic sensibilities can be seen in her work. Additionally, the portraiture of Chuck Close and the artistic expressions of Scottish artist Mark Herald influence McIntyre's collage works.
