For the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, and peace...   Galatians 5:22

––Eric Heitmann, Painter

Hudson Valley-born artist, Eric Heitmann, creates divine paintings that rejoice in the colors and textures of nature. He cites the historic, awe-inspiring beauty of his birthplace as his main source of inspiration. Heitmann currently lives on Sylvan Lake in the Hudson Valley, drawing daily inspiration from nature’s serene movement: swaying water grasses, glistening wildflowers, gliding swans, even the resident perching bald eagle. He takes in this delicate motion and color from the window of his studio and translates it onto his canvas. Each painting is constructed of many layers of acrylic paint to create dimensional landscapes and gardens. Heitmann describes this spiritual process as being simultaneously methodical and carefree, akin to the essence of nature itself.

Heitmann says that he has always been a creator, physically driven to release his endless ideas. He comes from three generations of artists. His current home belonged to his grandfather, who he feels guides him daily in his creation. Family art fills his home, providing a sense of place and identity. Heitmann hopes his vibrant use of color draws the viewer into his joyous, ethereal imagery, “a place where paint smiles”.

Heitmann's work was chosen as the poster for both the 2017 Westhampton Art Show and the 2017 Montauk Art Show. He made the cover of the 2017 edition of Artblend and was also a finalist in The Artist Magazine 34th Annual Art Competition. He travels across the country selling his paintings in high-profile art shows and fairs. Heitmann places high value on community––which he might describe as divine harmony.
